Our approach

Why we don’t give every body the same massage

A great massage isn’t about following a sequence. It’s about paying attention, and knowing what to do with what you notice.

The short version

You don’t have to diagnose yourself or choose the perfect technique. Tell us what you’re experiencing, and we’ll use the right tools for your body.

Curious about the tools? See the techniques we draw on.

Principles

  1. 01

    The technique follows the person

We don’t pick a modality and fit you into it. We learn what’s going on, then reach for what will help: soft tissue work, acupressure, cupping, reflexology, slower restorative work, or a mix.

  2. 02

    You don’t need the vocabulary

“My shoulders are up by my ears” is a perfectly good starting point. Translating that into a plan is our job, not yours.

  3. 03

    Pressure is agreed, not assumed

Firm isn’t automatically better, and gentle isn’t automatically less effective. You agree on pressure at the start and can change it any time.

  4. 04

Body, mind and the rest of your life

A lot of tension comes from how we live: long hours at a screen, training, caring for everyone else. We look at the whole picture, and we work alongside your PT, chiropractor or other care.

How a session works

More techniques aren’t the point. Knowing which one to use is.

Most massages follow a sequence. Ours follow you. You bring what you’re feeling; choosing the technique is the expertise you’re booking.

  1. 01

    We listen first

What you’re feeling, how long it’s been going on, what your week looks like, and what you want to leave with.

  2. Beth looking down, focused on what she feels under her hands
    02

    We find where it starts

Your therapist checks how the area moves and feels. The sore spot isn’t always the source.

  3. A thumb pressing slowly into a tight spot along the back
    03

    We choose the approach

Soft tissue, deep tissue, acupressure, reflexology, cupping or slower restorative work. Only what’s useful.

  4. Two stacked hands working into the lower back in the treatment room
    04

The session adapts as you go

Pressure and focus keep adjusting as your body responds. Say the word and anything changes.

Where it comes from

Beth Panero learned bodywork in Japan, starting in 1992, studying shiatsu, acupressure and reflexology under Dr. Yumiko Fujimoto. 34 years later the principle is the same: understand the person first, then choose the work.

Ready when you are.

Choose a time that suits you. Your therapist plans the session with you when you arrive.
